Vehicle‌ ‌Maintenance‌ ‌to‌ ‌Prep‌ ‌Your‌ ‌Car‌ ‌for‌ ‌Winter‌

Living in Flagstaff, AZ, offers residents unique advantages. One such advantage is snow. That’s right! We get about 100 inches of snow in Flagstaff every winter, so you should prepare your automobile for the winter with a fall service visit now. University Auto Repair is a full-service auto shop in Flagstaff, and we’ll do the following vehicle maintenance to make sure your car, truck, crossover, or SUV stays reliable and safe as we head into the fall and winter seasons.

Battery Test

Your battery is made up of lead plates and an acid/water solution that work together to generate voltage. Winter weather can slow down the chemical reaction going on inside of the battery which will make it die faster. We’ll test your battery and replace it if necessary before the snow hits.

Brake Service

You rely on your brakes more than you realize, especially when you’re driving on wet or icy roads. We’ll check your brakes to make sure they’re a-okay. This includes bleeding the lines and replacing the brake fluid if necessary. We’ll also change the brake pads if they’re worn down too low.

Fluid Replacement

All of your vehicle’s fluids are important but there are three in particular that your car needs in the winter. They are antifreeze, oil, and windshield wash. We’ll check all of your fluids and make it a point to replace the coolant with antifreeze, conventional with synthetic oil, and add de-icing washer fluid.

Heater Core Check

You won’t get any heat inside your automobile if something is wrong with the heater core. This can be a problem in older cars because the average lifespan of a heater core is 80,000 to 100,000 miles. We’ll check the core and test the heater to make sure you stay toasty warm all winter long.

Hose and Belt Inspection

Cold weather can also cause problems with hoses and belts that are already worn. Depending on the materials used to manufacture the belts and hoses, you may find yourself with a broken or cracked one in the middle of winter. We’ll take a look at these parts and replace them if necessary.

Tire Rotation and Wheel Balance

If your tire tread is low, replace the tires now so you have optimal grip on the winter roads. If you haven’t had your tires rotated and your wheels balanced in over 6,000 miles, now is the time to do it. You want your tires and wheels ready to withstand the abuse of tire chains if you need to use them.
