Replace the filter and oil.
Make sure your car is clean from the inside out before you leave.

Avoid placing luggage on top of the vehicle. It slows you down and produces air friction, which releases additional gas. If you can’t avoid it, cover with a sturdy sheet and bind them tightly.
Keep a tiny trash bag in the vehicle.

To avoid bug blockages or other damage, place a protective sheet over the car’s headlights and front end.
Purchase an additional set of seat belts.

Verify that your jack and tire iron are in the vehicle.

Bring a fire extinguisher with you.
Bring towels so that spills and dirty windshields can be cleaned.
In case you lock your keys in the car, get an extra key and carry it with you in your wallet or somewhere else.
Install sun protection on the front windshield and side windows.
Make sure your music collection is current and your podcast is downloaded (or else you risk losing service). Or, if you’re more traditional, your favorite CDs.
Remember all of the cables you’ll need, including your phone’s car charger, an auxiliary cable if you need one, USB cables, camera chargers, Go Pro charges, drone chargers, etc.
Remember those small but crucial memory cards when you’re taking pictures or videos.
Sunglasses – keep them handy!
In order to add water or other fluids, bring a plastic funnel. In the event that you need to use a lake or river as an emergency coolant, bring a pail of water.
Make sure your fuel tank is half full at all times. Waiting too long is bad.
Keep your owner’s manual close at reach.
