How To Defog Windshield Without Heat

Not every driver needs to use a heater in order to eliminate any frost that has built up on their windshield and windows. Even though most drivers do turn on the heater for this task, there are a few other ways to defrost car windows. Let’s look at some of the best techniques to use on those chilly winter days.

Best Ways To Defrost Windshield Without Heat

Without the use of heat, there are still a few efficient ways to clear your windshield. Here are a few of the best methods to use for this task.

Method 1. De-Icing Spray

  • You can purchase de-icing spray from most local car supply stores.
  • Ensure this solution is mixed properly by shaking it.
  • Evenly apply the spray on your car’s windshield.
  • Let the solution sit while it melts the frost for several minutes.
  • Start from the top and work your way down as you remove the melted frost with either a soft cloth or ice scraper.

Method 2. Ice Scraper

  • A strong ice scraper, equipped with a good grip and sharp edge, can be used for this task.
  • Place it on your windshield and begin scraping the frost off.
  • Do this from the top to the downside.
  • Push down cautiously to avoid any potential cracks in the glass.
  • Scrape until all frost has been removed and the glass is clear.

Method 3. Vinegar And Water Mixture

  • Use a spray container to mix equal parts water and vinegar.
  • Make sure to mix this solution well.
  • Apply the vinegar solution to the windshield/windows covered in ice.
  • Allow the solution to sit for several minutes.
  • Start by working your way from the top on down.
  • Remove the melted frost with the help of a soft cloth or ice scraper.

Method 4. Rubbing Alcohol

  • Add water and rubbing alcohol in a 1:2 ratio in a spray container.
  • Mix the bottle vigorously, as a proper mix is essential.
  • Spray the solution onto the windshield and let it sit for at least 2 minutes.
  • Remove the melted frost from the top on down with a soft cloth or ice scraper.
