“The staff at University Auto repair were very good to me. They found a part that is really hard to get on my 2001 Dodge Ram Van. And I live in my van and they let me stay in my home on wheels while we waited for the part to come in. It took 2 months for the repair to finally get accomplished. They were comforting when I was having my own breakdown while my vehicle was broken down. They have a shuttle that was very helpful to me and the location is safe and in walking distance to a lot of restaurants and grocery stores and other places like that. I really appreciate the care and initiative they take to make sure the car is working properly and that I am aware of any potential issues. The 3-year warranty also gives me peace of mind and shows that they stand behind their work. Recently, they completed five repairs on my vehicle, and they were still able to get the car finished by the end of the day. These were not small repairs, so I really appreciated how hard they worked to get everything taken care of. Josh is also an amazing customer representative. He is genuine and sincere, and that makes a big difference when you are dealing with vehicle repairs. Picking up the vehicle they explained the 3 year national warranty that gave us additional peace of mind. Also, if you have a coupon someone brings in, it would be nice to explain to the customer that there will be fees added to the coupon price and what they are, just to ensure people know ahead of time. I expect tax, however if you have a disposal fee, why not include that in the coupon and say the full price in the end so it’s not a surprise. Just a thought. Unfortunately waiting 4 hours for an oil change when was assured it would be max 2, was too long and due to bad communication, I don’t feel like I would want to try and come back, which is unfortunate. They gave me a ride to the rental car place, and even picked me up when returning my rental the next day. Jaymie was so kind and helped relieve a lot of stress, and walked me through everything while giving me some peace of mind. She went out of her way to make sure I knew everything that was going on, and gave me reassurance for coming back when I felt something wasn’t right. John, the tech who worked on my car, immediately fixed an issue I had after picking my car up, and the shop owner gave me the coil for free and didn’t charge me for the labor when I returned shortly after getting my vehicle. Tyler was super friendly, he gave me a ride to and from the rental place and even drove to another location to get the coil I needed so that I could get home quickly! “My car needed an alternator replacement. The car dashboard shows alternator light is on. My battery was fairly new. AAA towed my car to the shop and AAA recommended this shop. I am out of state and needed the car fixed to continue my travel because I had a deadline to be somewhere else. They took the car into the shop and looked at it for not more than 15 minutes then the manager named Chris came and told me it needed new alternator and new battery and with labor it will cost me $1480. I was in shock. I was desperate to fix the car due to my time constraints. So I told him not to change the battery and replace the alternator only. He agreed to put new serpentine belt and change the oil and top fluids and change the engine air filter but without the battery the charge would be $1058. I agreed reluctantly. Deep down I felt I was scammed and the repair should not exceed $600 to $700 max. Chris did show me the new alternator and belt. The car was fixed ok and started good again but when I checked the fluids were not topped off and the air filter was not replaced. I called the manager Chris and he told me he did not find an air filter in Flagstaff. That is add because I bought new air filter from O’Reilly auto shop the same day after I left University Auto Repair. I felt scammed and charged at least $600 more than I should. They charged me $205 just for diagnosing the car even the dashboard said it is the alternator. They charged $500 for 2 hours of labor, even it took them 45 minutes max to replace the alternator. Best alternator cost about $200 max. You could buy a good alternator for even $100. I did check on the internet. They tripled the alternator price too. Bottom line they overpriced everything multiple times what is reasonable. They seem to do the same for almost every customer. Look their reviews on google. They took advantage of my situation and charged me big money for a simple job. They should refund me at least $500. I do not recommend this auto shop for anyone. Concluding that my lower radiator hose was cracked and my radiator was leaking. Thermostat was apparently tested and was fine. They asked for $2,400+ for the repair. I got a second opinion with TNT Automotive and their Machanic found my lower hose clamp was leaking due to a bad hose clamp, my radiator was fine and my Thermostat was faulty. TNT charged me less than University autos Diagnostic to fix my Thermostat. This place is a rip off. Please seek your repairs from TNT Automotive not this place” Read Less

“Disappointed. Just moved to Flagstaff and my colleague advised me this shop for a oil leak. I am not a car guy and hate the scamy feeling you get when dealing with autoshops. However, they made me feel very comfortable as soon as I walked in, telling me the leak will be diagnosed within a hour, and even taxiing me for free to a restaurant so I can get a quick lunch to go. However, it took them almost 5h to roll my vehicle onto the lift (always saying “oh you are next, I just checked”), and while diagnosing the leak, I talked to 4 different people. Not sure who was the tech, the tech lead, the manager or even the owner, but every person I talked to gave me a different diagnosis and quote. The miscommunication between them is just insane, as well as false information provided to the customer and being 200% sure about it (I checked online what they were saying and could not find anything, so I raised a flag and luckily they came back to me to apologize later on and provide a bs excuse…). Anyway, I had to get the leak fixed so they started to work on the car, but while working on it, more miscommunication came up between what was the actual issue, what needs to be replaced and whatnot. So price went from 3.1K, to 4.6K, to 1.2K, to finally settle at 1.9K!!! An absolute nightmare… Work got completed the next day and it has not been leaking since then. So I would say their workmanship is definitely good, but how they diagnose cars and communicate is awfully wrong. Less is more!” Read Less

“I have gone to University Auto for a few concerns with my vehicle over the past 3 years. This past week was the worst experience I have had so far. I took my car in due to the lights failing to work and through my own efforts to determine the cause could find nothing wrong. The bulbs had been professionally replaced 6 months prior which I was present for. The person replacing my bulbs even provided instruction on how I could do this myself if needed in the future. The fuses were checked and those were fine prior to me taking it into University Auto. After a few back and forth phone calls regarding the status of my vehicle, I was able to pick it up later that afternoon. Once I got there, the lights were still not working. I informed the employee who took it back once more and then it was quickly brought back and the employee began to inform me that I “didn’t know how my lights worked.” He then proceeded to tell me it was the bulbs that had fingerprints all over them. I informed the employee they were recently replaced and the professional doing it wore gloves and didn’t touch the bulbs. The employee then showed me two blue bulbs and flashed them in my face and said, “see your bulbs were burnt out.” When I informed him I checked the bulbs prior to dropping it off and told him those were not my bulbs he ignored me and said again, “you just don’t know how to use your lights.” I had no choice but to pay the close to $300 and then later that evening, my lights stopped working again. “Before I even begin this, I’d like to mention that I’d happily have resolved this over email if this shop had a public email to contact. I’m posting this because I feel entirely entitled to some form of refund. I called University yesterday after changing my oil and noticing a small, maybe 2/10 severity leak from the pan gasket on my transmission. After doing an inspection and confirming my suspicions, University said they could fix it same-day, which seemed like a miracle. Too good to be true. I woke up this morning, less than 12 hours after their initial repair (new pan gasket and transmission filter replacement) to a massive puddle of transmission fluid, up to 3+ quarts, on the ground under my vehicle. I cannot reiterate enough, the prior leak was so insignificant that I never even noticed dripping before doing my oil change, and probably drove 2000-4000 miles with it present without realizing it due to its insignificance. I nearly had to get towed today due to how much fluid had leaked, leaving me stranded when I was supposed to be leaving town. This service was already $750, which I knew was on the high end but accepted to have the work done same-day. At this point, I feel I’m entitled to a refund for the troubles their “repairs” created for me today. Update: the cherry on top is the shop I brought it into today told me it’s actually the pan gasket again, and this whole situation is because the bolts on the pan were heavily over-torqued causing the brand new gasket to fail within less than a full day. “I had a very disappointing experience at this shop. My car was shifting hard into gears, and I also needed an oil change. I called ahead to ask if there was a wait and was told to come in. When I arrived, it was packed, and I didn’t get my car back until after closing time. I really wish they had been more upfront about the wait so I could have planned accordingly. My biggest concern was the transmission diagnosis they gave me. They told me my transmission fluid was burnt and that there were metal pieces in it, indicating my transmission was failing and that I would need a full replacement. That’s an extremely expensive repair, so I was understandably hesitant. I decided to get a second opinion at my dealership, where I have friends and family who I trust to give me an honest evaluation. I even provided them with the full report from University Auto Repair. After thoroughly inspecting my car, they determined the only issue was a transmission mount (anchor) that needed to be replaced, which was causing the hard shifting. The transmission fluid was not burnt, and there were no metal fragments in it. My transmission was not failing. Being told I needed a completely new transmission when that wasn’t true is extremely concerning and makes me question the accuracy and integrity of the original diagnosis. I would also caution others to look closely at the final bill, as there were additional fees added to the oil change. The camber was so out of line you could see it with eyes! Clearly they didn’t take it for a test drive either. I called and left a message and never heard back so I made an appointment with a 4X4 specialist in town to pay for the job to be done again! Unfortunately, I had to drive the truck for about a week before they could get me in and the wear on the outer edge of the tires was obvious. When I took it to the specialist they laughed when I showed them that the ball joints where clearly installed 180 degrees out of the proper position. I think if you have regular straight forward mechanical issue, this might be the place for you but if its anything slightly complicated, I’d go somewhere else.” Read Less

University said it was the refrigerant line suction, and tried to charge 800 to get that fixed. We went to our trusted mechanic instead and got it fixed for half the price, where he replaced the line and added an evac recharge. He drove the car after replacing each part to confirm where the problem was. However, the AC was still leaking, and we got his opinion and a second opinion to confirm there was a problem with either the AC compressor or the pressure sensor attached to it. We took it back to University expecting it to be under warranty, but they claimed it was not the compressor and tried to charge an additional 800 to fix something else, despite the second opinions from other mechanics. We were very disappointed in the money we wasted at University, and we would not spend another cent here.” Read Less

“I have had a good experience with university auto in the past but a completely different experience the other day. Long story short my wife’s car would not start the other day after stopping at the gas station. I called university auto to explain what was happening and that I had cleared codes a few months earlier for a similar issue and it seemed to solve what was happening. I kind of got lectured that there was more that goes into diagnosing than just scanning codes. Sure I get that, but I got the feeling that anything I had to say about the symptoms did not matter to the person I spoke with. Had the car towed there and they “diagnosed” that the starter and alternator needed to be replaced and it would be $2200, which I thought was a little ridiculous. Those parts causing the issue did make some sense but I thought the estimated cost was even more ridiculous after I had the car towed back to my house where I swapped the starter and alternator in about 2 and a half hours. I get that parts get up charged and labor rates aren’t cheap by any means but $2200 sounded excessive. Regardless, the problem was not fixed after swapping these parts and ended up being the brake light switch which I have since learned was recalled by Subaru. Glad I had it towed home to fix it myself because I’m sure I would have been out $2k+ without the actual issue being fixed. If you have a 2016 Subaru Crosstrek that will not start or starts and will not shift out of park, my suggestion would be to contact a Subaru dealership. Follow up: Management reached out to me and refunded the diagnostic fee. So although the experience we had with the diagnosis did not go well, I do feel that they made it right.” Read Less

“Had a motor replacement for my van done here back in November ’24 while traveling. The motor itself has been working fine for the most part, but these guys dropped the ball on the re-assembly. I have had nothing but continuous problems since the day my van left their shop. 300 miles down the road a faulty seal blew and purged all of my fluids. The terminal leads for the alternator weren’t securely mounted causing an intermittent connection, and the alternator itself wasn’t properly mounted – thus the alternator burned up and needed to be replaced. The battery hold-down bracket was never reinstalled. The exhaust manifold wasn’t securely mounted. Some coolant hoses were routed poorly and had been slowly getting chewed down by rubbing against moving pulleys. Every mechanic that’s looked under the hood immediately points out various bolts I’m missing and things that aren’t routed or mounted right. It’s getting comical at this point, every issue I have keeps coming back to the install performed at this shop. If you live in the area and can come back at your convenience to have them correct their work, maybe it’s an OK shop – otherwise I’d say steer clear because you’ll most likely be screwed a few hundred miles down the road. Edit: adding some more info because the shop insists on being disingenuous. I had an LKQ warranty on the block itself, the terms of which I’ve already exceeded and is irrelevant anyway as I’ve had no issues with that by itself. You did charge me for the exhaust repair (I have the invoice) and I was fine to pay that because obviously it was rusted out. The issue comes down to the insanely amateur install with missing and poorly mounted parts. You’ve got my number, give me a call sometime I’d love to chat.” Read Less

She has minimal time, so was relieved that Kush and Josh got her vehicle in after we had it to multiple mechanics, which said “everything looks fine”…to have Kush tell us as soon as it was on the lift without driving it that their mechanics found that the driveshaft U joint at the transmission is bad and cracked. They ordered the parts that day, and had her on her way the next day by 4 pm. Before they turned over the car to her, I asked them to test drive it going 75mph on the freeway (like I asked the other mechanics that did NOT), and they did. After driving on the freeway, they suggested a front-end alignment since two of the tires on the front were feathered, and there was still some vibration sounds, so they switched those two tires to the back. They gave us the cracked U joint and the front end alignment “before” and “after” paperwork from their diagnostic tests. Routine service includes a deep and thorough inspection. On the latest service they the radiator hoses were beginning to leak and that the oxygeb sensors were beginning to fail. I asked all to be replaced. Aside from the very serious risk of failures on the remote forest roades that I occasionally drive, a failure on any of the highways out of town easily could take 4, 6, 8, 10 hours for a very expensive service to arrive and tow me back before getting home. I completely trust University with my safety. 12/04/24 These guys are relentless in finding parts for my year 2000 331K miles 4Runner. And they are super friendly. They just plain knocked it out of the park. Thorough intake of my description of complex elusive symptoms. A thorough and astute diagnosis revealing root cause other shops had missed. Updated me with concise and full explanation. Had faulty parts replaced and I had my supercharged 19 year old 4Runner cured and back on the road next day. Everybody did their part masterfully starting with the front desk, the wizards in the shop, the updates. Brilliance. 6/30 update. The ABS controller went out on my 4Runner, now 20 years of age. Toyota no longer makes the part. Josh pounded the phone lines til he found a used one in condition good enough to pass his merciless inspection. Many were turned away. “Unbelievable bad experience. I took my truck into University auto with smoke coming from my driveshaft where it enters the differential (rear axle) The next day they called to quote me almost $9000 to do the repairs. So I stopped in to take a look. I crawled under the truck to take a look for my self and wanted to see if they had even looked at the differential and I could see that they had never even opened up the differential or the fill plug. (See my photos) I called them on the lie and he said he would show me. We went out to the truck and I said to him “look you can see that no one had even touched the differential bolts or the plug”. Then he opened up the fill plug in front of me and sucked out some fluid and put it in a cup and told me that it was full of metal shavings when it just had what looked like dirt or minor metal dust. I showed him that there was no way that they had opened it up and then he had lied to me. They told me I could take the truck and they wouldn’t charge me for the evaluation. So I gave them chance to redeem themselves. I asked if they could just replace the bearing and the seal and flush the differential and add new fluid. Then they called to tell me that they could do what I asked and do just the bearing that failed and a seal for approximately $3000 but it would probably not last a few miles before failing again. I had purchased an aftermarket warranty on the truck that would not take affect for another 30 days or 300 miles so I really just needed the repairs to at least last a little while and then my warranty would take over if it failed again. I personally had a lot of faith that it just needed a bearing and a seal and not a total rebuild. Maybe I was wrong? They said they would do it my way but wouldn’t warranty the work once it left the driveway because they said unless they did the full rebuild there would be zero warranty and it would probably only go a few miles before failing again. The next next call from them was telling me that there was 1 inch of play in my driveshaft were it enters the differential. When I took it to another shop, we couldn’t find any play in the driveshaft at all. So one more lie. It was just one lie after another. I’m so glad I took it out there and took it to another shop where I had the the differential totally rebuilt with parts and labor for $2300, not even close to the $9000 that they wanted to charge me at University auto. I had found a shop in Phoenix that was going to give me an entirely new used rear axle with labor and towing all the way to Phoenix for $2100. After waiting for the tow truck for a few hours, I decided to drive the truck over to Accu Brake / Flagstaff 4 x 4 about 6 miles away to see if they would take a look at it and with what university Auto had told me I was afraid to drive the truck 100 yards let alone the 6+ miles to Flag 4 x 4. I made it there with no problems whatsoever and I’m so glad that I received honesty and integrity from Accu Brake /Flagstaff 4 x 4. It’s so sad that university automotive looks like such a nice shop but in reality I received one lie after another and I would definitely not recommend this shop to anyone. It’s so sad that dishonesty seems to be the way the shop is run.” Read Less

I googled what the repair should cost: about $490. I brought my car to another shop and they were able to replace just the valve in an hour for $425. Stay away from this place unless you want to pay literally a thousand extra for a simple repair! Update: after I wrote this the manager called me and they paid the $425 for my repair. I certainly appreciate that, but I still don’t have an explanation why their estimate stated the purge valve couldn’t be accessed manually when it could, and costing an extra $1,000 more than was actually necessary.” Read Less

“I would give this establishment 10 stars if I could. On a trip driving on the I-40 from California to Flagstaff a truck in front of us blew a tire and caused damage to the underside of our car. We didn’t notice something dragging until many miles later when we reached Flagstaff. We contacted the Babbitt Ford dealer early the next morning and they were completely useless. I made one call to University and spoke to Nick. He told us to bring the car over and he’d see what he could do. Within the hour we arrived and Nick was right there to welcome us. It took him less than 15 minutes to remove the splash guard and after explaining its purpose and telling us to replace it when possible we were good to go. While we were waiting we listened to another technician giving excellent advice and accurate information to a customer regarding a catalytic converter malfunction. The information her Honda dealer had given to her was not only inaccurate but also violated Federal law. These folks at University Auto Repair know their business and if I lived in the area they would have all my business. Thanks to Nick for saving our trip. “We were moving from Phoenix to Colorado pulling a heavy trailer with our one ton Dodge. The transmission went out as we were coming into Flagstaff. We contacted University Auto and had the truck towed to their shop. We continued to Colorado in our U-Haul and had our trailer towed to another facility in Flagstaff for storage as we were told it would take three weeks to repair our transmission. After not hearing back from them several days later, we called Chris at University Auto. He told us a transmission would cost $9300.00. We thought it was a high amount, but we needed to get the truck back, to finish our move. BIG MISTAKE ON OUR PART!! We were under a deadline to get moved out, so calling around for a better quote and having a vehicle towed was not an option. Three weeks later, we called University Auto and they told us the transmission that was ordered was damaged and did not work. (They never bothered to call and tell us that.) After numerous calls to check on the transmission, we finally were told that our truck was ready. This was FOUR MONTHS LATER!! We had to hire a friend to tow our trailer from the Flagstaff storage facility in order to not pay four months in storage fees. We drive to Flagstaff from Colorado to pick up our Dodge. We spoke to the service manager and asked him to speak to the owner about the extremely high cost and delay. He called us back, once we were in Colorado again and said the owner would refund $500.00. During this same call, I advised him that my truck was leaking transmission fluid. I took the truck to a local Colorado repair shop and they found an “O” ring had leaked. This was covered under the warranty. We never heard anything back from University Auto and we never received any money. The shop that repaired the leak were outraged at the price we paid and they quoted us a rebuilt transmission for $3000.00 less! We found that the transmission cost University Auto $4800 including shipping. They marked it up roughly 42% and then charged $1840 in labor, and other misc parts, which they did not itemize. Total bill $9326.82! This was a total rip off and we feel we were taken advantage of because we were moving and had little option at the time. The service manager lied about any refund and never contacted us again! These guys gouge on their hourly charging rates and have a ridiculous markup on parts! Before using them, it would be beneficial to call someone else and compare prices. If you are out of state, have your vehicle towed to a reputable repair shop!!” Read Less

I tried to charge the car before having it towed over. It would take a charge, then stop. It was towed to them on Thursday. On Friday afternoon a fast talking guy got me on the phone. He said they did a $175 diagnostic on it, then tried to ‘fix’ the battery. They got it to five per cent, then ten per cent. He explained they could not do anymore diagnostics without replacing the battery which would be $175. The whole bill totalled $510, I guess the other $160 was for trying to ‘fix’ the battery? I called the tire place and they don’t have a record of the tire being brought in. No one from University Auto ever called me with an estimate or asked permission to do any repairs. I sent the store an email today. I asked to be charged only for a visual inspection, to put the battery in and fix the tire. And to call me for authorization. I’m a senior on a fixed income and I can’t afford to be overcharged. NEW NOTE. It turns out I did authorize the diagnostic, they have my voice recording of that. They ended up dropping the diagnostic charge and putting in a battery for a total of $308.00. They are putting in a little extra gas in my empty tank. “University Auto Shop provide great customer service with features like their courtesy shuttle and mini fridge that is always stocked. However, in the two times I had been there, they had tried to take advantage of me, and continue to take advantage of college students and their parents’ money through various tactics. One of the shop workers Chris, when explaining a diagnostic report or an issue with your car, will speak incredibly fast and using advanced auto jargon in order to confuse customers and scare them into paying for services that are either not best practices and/or are way above market price. Their shop minimum seems to be $155 regardless of the service performed, even if it’s less than 1 hour of labor. Was quoted way over market price for just 2 brake pads and apparently new rotors, when one other call to a shop down the street generated a quote at almost half of hte price. When they are busy and know their services are in high demand, their customer service goes out the window and most staff become pretty rude and curt. Jonathan, another shop worker, was nice and courteous, but also gives the impression of scaring customers with the fear of ‘risk’ and ‘what-if’ in order for the customer to pay large amounts of money for services right then and there. Just don’t feel good about taking my car there anymore even if it’s a convenient location and the customer service is good if you overpay for their services. Edit: Another auto place I took to get my brakes to, literally showed me my old brakes and measured the pads in front of me. Measured 3.2mm – 3.46mm. University Auto told me the width was 1-2mm and that it was ‘dangerous’ to drive on the road, which makes me think either they measured incorrectly or intentionally told me a smaller width in order to pressure me to buy brakes right then and there.” Read Less

“I took my car on January 2nd. to get the alternator replaced. They didn’t give me warranty neither on labor nor part because it was not their part. I brought it. But, apparently they did a good job and hopefully it last. Now, the downside was that the original estimate was around 310 dlls calculating about 2 hrs labor (155 per hour) but later on they called me, once I had left the car with them, saying that it was going to take about 2.5 hr, so I ended up paying +430 dlls. They don’t have fixed prices and could charge whatever they want. That’s not it, in fact they called me twice on the middle of the process, saying that the power steering reservoir was leaking too much fluid and that needs to be replaced, that cost would be over 500 dlls to get it fix and would be ready the next day. Now, here is the thing. The reservoir WAS NOT leaking fluid BEFORE taking the car with them. By looking at the reservoir it HAD a HUGE CRACK right in a place where it hangs itself to the car so this crack was done either by accident or negligence while replacing the alternator. Or simple “bad coincidence”. But paying 500 dlls just to replace it? Looking it online cost on average 40 dlls and it will take less than 20 minutes to replace it. I am not local (was visiting flags) I decided to buy special glue and temporarily fix it myself to stop the leak. And I will replace it later on. Took me less than 20 mins to take it out and put it back in, plus another 30 mins to let the glue dry out. The glue cost me 19 dlls at a local Napa auto part. And if you call Honda, they will want to sell you the whole thing, including the pump, that’s their procedure and it is NOT neccesarly. In conclusion, if you are a tourist in Flagstaff watch out when having a car problem because most of the places will charge you whatever they want to you and sometimes they will do unnecessarily things to your car just to charge you more. This last thing was told to me by a local while buying the alternator at a local autozone and he was the one that recommend me University auto care, that’s why I took my care there. These are the facts that’s why I don’t give a 5 star (alternator replacement) nor 1 star (power steering leaking problem and “dynamic” prices) to the auto care facility and Leave up to the reader the judgment.” Read Less

Called my mechanic at home and he referred me to University Auto Repair. Called and Matt said if I was patient they could check out my problem, but no guarantees if it required parts. I arrived about 20 minutes after I call and the check in was very friendly, saying they would get it looked after as soon as possible. My dog and I sat in their waiting area approximately 3.20 hours. Everyone was so nice and I felt at ease knowing they would do everything they could to get me back on the road. Problem was the Freon that had leaked out of the A/C. They were honest in initial quote and I was soon back on the road in cool comfort again. I highly recommend “University Auto Repair” and their service personnel. The lead tech refused to watch the video I took to prove the massive problem and basically told me to go pound sand. Once I got the general manager involved, he agreed to change the front set again, which stopped the vibrating but then caused the LOUDEST BREAKS IN EXISTANCE. My breaks announce my presence at every stop, like having a whistle hooked up to the exhaust. Brand new breaks. I complained and they said “it’s just the new kind of breaks, it’ll wear away and stop”. Well six months later and I’m still announcing my wearabouts to the entire community at all times. Shops like University Auto Repair are the reason the Auto Repair industry has a reputation for fraud and dissatisfaction. My daughter’s car recently broke an AC/alternator belt. We made the mistake of taking it to another shop nearby her apartment. I told her, “you are a 19 year old co-ed, the problem is relatively simple, but don’t be surprised if they try to up-sell you on service and diagnostics you don’t need” She told them what the problem was and that she needed those components addressed and when she didn’t want the 15 point bumper to bumper once over, they claimed that they couldn’t “guarantee their work” I suppose in retrospect, this should have been the point where I walked away and found a different shop, but I knew how easy the fix was, I just couldn’t run up there from Phoenix to do it myself. They “fixed” it, but a few weeks later, the belt blew again and when I called the shop to find out if they had anything to say, their response was to remind me we declined the 15 point bumper to bumper inspection so they would not stand behind their work. I told them that they either put the belt on a faulty idler or installed it incorrectly and were now acting as if this was an acceptable way to do business. I reminded them that there is a difference between fixing a problem and “ignore the cause of the problem” and that if they had found the source of the broken belt to be bad bearings or a bad idler, I would have 100% green lit the cost of repair. They still accepted 0 responsibility. I am sure the manager or owner that sees this review is going to point out an invoice that THEY wrote where they CLAIM I said I did not want any diagnosis to why your belt “Came Off”. That is clever wording for what was actually said which was “I don’t want your bumper to bumper diagnostic. I have a broken belt, I need that fixed. That doesn’t mean to put a new belt on a potentially faulty idler or tensioner, and to do so would would demonstrate otherworldly incompetence or petty maliciousness on a whole new level. Eventually, I would have the car examined at Apex Auto (who specialize in European cars) and they did not find any issues with the idlers or tensioners that would have caused pre-mature wear on the belt. Meaning the first break was simply due to the age of the belt, but the second one was due to incorrect installation. So if you are keeping track, not only do the leadership at University Auto lack a conscience, but their mechanics apparently lack an even basic understanding of their trade. If you are in need of honest ethical and honest service. Go to Tag Automotive who agreed that University and their affiliated shops (Heath and Randy’s) are unethical and incompetent, and Apex Auto (who seconded those assessments as well.” Read Less
